THE VIEW FROM CIMA ROCCHETTA

Park the car in Piazzale Chiara d’Assisi, in the hamlet of Piovere. Go down via Antonio Gramsci till you cross via Noezzo, which you will follow uphill for about 300 m. Then turn left on path 244. After the first stretch of path (which is very steep), follow the directions for path 235. You will reach an old mule track at a crossroads: turn right towards Cima Rocchetta. To reach this scenic spot, you must turn right after about 600 metres, deviating from the path. The detour becomes visible after a small valley with impressive beech trees. If you pay attention, you will see the ruins of a small house on a hill to your right. About 50 meters after the building, you will reach Cima Rocchetta. You will then go back to trail 235 and continue uphill for 200 metres, till you reach a beautiful alpine hut. Follow the wide path to your right until you reach trail 243. On your left, about 30 metres further on, you will find trail 244b, leading back to trail 244. From there, you can easily make your way back to the hamlet of Piovere.

1-THE TAMPA TRAIL
Trail 244 is extremely scenic. It stretches from Castello to Piovere, where it crosses an old mule track which used to connect Muslone with Boldis, towards Mount Denervo. The trail was renamed “Tampa trail” in memory of a charcoal burner who worked his entire life in the area above the hamlet of Piovere. His persistence had him keep looking for a solution to the drought problem in his working area. In order to avoid back and forth journeys to collect water in the neighbouring valleys, he turned to a dowser. The dowser showed him the place where he should dig, but the locals were sceptical about Tampa’s endeavour. In fact, everybody knew that no water could ever be found in that spot. The charcoal burner was more determined than ever and dug two tunnels. The first one collapsed together with the one right beside it, called the “giàl”. Legend says that the second tunnel led Tampa to success.
